December 2023

The last quarter of 2023 was characterized by the continuity of actions in response to hurricanes Eta and Iota and storm Julia in the departments of Atlántida, Colon, Copan, Cortes, Gracias a Dios, Santa Bárbara and Yoro. Mainly through housing rehabilitation, 2,264 people were reached, more than 30% of the total number of people assisted in 2023 (7,248). Habitat for Humanity, GOAL and Catholic Relief Services reached 13 municipalities in this period.

HRP 2023 final preparation phase  

The cluster supported partners register projects proposed within the Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP) 2023 Project Module. Five projects have been presented for the HRP, after being reviewed by the cluster coordination team.

December 2022

During the last quarter of 2022, the cluster members supported municipalities affected by the floods in September and Tropical Storm Julia.  The response included support in data needs assessments, NFI distribution, roof repairs and rehabilitation of schools that had been used as emergency collective shelters.

September 2022

Third Quarter 

Since August 2022, the cluster commenced data collection and calculation of the Population in Need (PIN) for the Humanitarian Needs Overview (HNO) 2023 HNO (Total sectoral PIN 192,045) 

. The two main indicators used are:  indicators: 

Persons whose houses were destroyed or severely damaged by geo-climatic events in the last two years. (Final PIN 92,512) 

People displaced due to community/regional hazards, including violence and conflict (IDPs). (Final PIN 121,465)

- Operating with scarce funding, limited room for deployment and in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and ongoing violence, the coordination of this response presented particular challenges. 

 

- Driven by local initiative,  the Shelter Cluster in Honduras focused on connecting municipal emergency coordinating bodies with the agencies that provided shelter support after the arrival of Eta and Iota hurricanes.
