GSC Online Meeting 2020: REDLAC Presentation (Shelter Cluster Americas) Presentation

Description

Four key takeaways from the session:

  • It is recognized that coordination can and should be started ahead of the emergency. Some preparedness activities would be best done at regional level, such as mapping prepositioned stocks.  However, the bulk of activities are country-specific and should be done at national level.  E.g. Agreements between local stakeholders can be done prior to the emergency response and those can be expanded at regional level.
  • Preparedness efforts should include national emergency response bodies, donors, and many actors who may not traditionally take part in the response.  These are local/municipal governments, diaspora organizations, indigenous communities and the academia, to name a few.  In this region the participation of faith-based organizations is key.
  • It is important to understand vulnerability by including actors that work with vulnerable population, and by consulting other sectors.  E.g. Analyses by the Protection cluster, HLP advisor, and civil-society organizations.
  • (Extra one) We need to do more advocacy for our sector.  The house is the best and first place to weather crisis such as the CoV19, both during and after the emergency.
