Highlights

According to PRMN report, drought has displaced around 1.17 million people between Jan 2021 and September 2022. Most of the displaced have arrived in Banadir, Galkacyo, Dhuusamarreeb, Cabudwaq, Cadaado, Baardheere, Hobyo, Burco, Kismayo, and Baidoa districts.

Need analysis

According to PRMN report, drought has displaced around 1.17 million people between Jan 2021 and September 2022. Another 1.01M have also been displaced due to conflict.Most of the displaced have arrived in Banadir, Galkacyo, Baidoa, Dhuusamarreeb, Cabudwaq, Cadaado, Baardheere, Hobyo, Burco, Kismayo, Belet weyne, Bulo Burto and Afmadhow districts.

Response

In September 2022, the Cluster Partners reached 52,860 people with non-food items (NFI) kits; and 133,053 people with shelter assistance. Cumulatively in 2022, the Shelter Cluster partners reached 300,063 individuals (37%) of 803,000 targeted with NFI assistance, and 258,316 individuals (60%) of the 430,800 targeted with shelter assistance.

Gaps / challenges

  • Prices of shelter commodities have increased sharply in the recent past affecting delivery of assistance e.g. through cash.
  • Lack of standard names for IDP site names make it difficult to coordinate activities at site level
  • Lack of Identification documents make it difficult to eliminate double registration of beneficiaries
