Recent fires in refugee camps in Bangladesh, Nigeria, and Greece have shown how significantly fire can undermine humanitarian assistance. But fire in humanitarian settlements is a cross-cutting issue that is everyone's (and therefore no one's) responsibility. While the scale and nature of the fire problem is still unknown, lessons can be learned from past fire incidents and context specific efforts to reduce fire risks. During the event, a panel of humanitarians, emergency responders, and fire safety researchers and practitioners discussed challenges with fire response in humanitarian settlements and opportunities to reduce fire risks through fire prevention, mitigation, and preparedness.
