Bangladesh Floods 2024
BAN-Bangladesh_NAWG_Situation Overview of Eastern Flash Flood 2024_V02
Several parts of northeastern and southeastern Bangladesh are experiencing significant flooding due to heavy rainfall influenced by an active monsoon and a low-pressure area, as reported by the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD). According to the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC), substantial rainfall has been recorded over the past 03 days, including 190.00 mm in Cumilla, 86.00 mm in Jafflong, 188.00 mm in Ramgarh (Khagrachhari), and 47.00 mm in Parshuram (Feni). This persistent rainfall, combined with water from upstream sources, has caused rivers such as the Kushiyara, Manu, Khowai, Gumti, and Feni to rise above danger levels, resulting in severe flooding in low-lying areas of Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Sylhet, Feni, Cumilla, Noakhali, Khagrachhari, Brahmanbaria, Chattogram, Lakshmipur, and Cox’s Bazar districts. The extensive rainfall and upstream water inflows have significantly exacerbated the flooding situation across these regions of Bangladesh.
