GSC Fire Risk Reduction Guidance
Fire Risk Reduction Guidance for Humanitarian Shelters and Settlements: 1st Edition
This guidance into fire risk reduction emerged from a wider research project (see report The State of Fire Safety in Humanitarian Shelter and Settlements) into fire safety in humanitarian settings. The guidance is presented in two sections. The first introduces some of the basics of fire science and engineering that should be considered foundational knowledge for all practitioners and actors working to design or manage shelters and settlements. The second section covers 9 key areas of fire safety. Essential knowledge for each topic is contextualised for humanitarian settings and recommendations are provided. Further consultation will lead to a 2nd edition that includes more contextualised examples and case studies. To contribute to this process contact: fire@kindlingsafety.org
