Description

During the last 35 years, there were 75 declared disasters in Mozambique, consisting of 13 drought events, 25 floods, 14 tropical cyclones and 23 epidemics. On top of that, in October 2017, Northern Cabo Delgado received the first attacks from an insurgent group.

Since 2019, we count 2 cyclones, floods, COVID19, and intensified attacks in the Northern Region.

Mozambique, a country where the main efforts were focus on development, suddenly became a humanitarian hotspot.

The new situation can be challenging, but, could we apply all lessons learnt from the humanitarian community and merge them with the capacity built in the country in terms of sustainable development?

Yes, we do.

Let's go together through some key learnings from the shelter partners working on both cyclone responses, COVID19 and conflict, and discuss how we can do it better.
