GLOBAL SHELTER CLUSTER ANNUAL WORKSHOP 2020
Day 4: Settlement Approach and Site Planning Session
Key Takeaways from the Session
- Settlement approaches require Shelter Cluster Coordinators to think spatially about the location of their interventions and to also think holistically about how solutions may fit with other programs.
- There is not a set of stone approach to Area Based Approaches and it differs by context. Many approaches are documented in the Shelter Cluster’s compendium of Case Studies.
- Settlements Approach can be a way to build more effective partnerships with local authorities and support them in the coordination of their response.
- Settlement and Area Based Approach Guidelines will hopefully be released by the end of the year and a series of consultations will take place.
- It is important to advocate for Shelter Clusters to have the resources to build the capacity of partners to better respond to the needs of the population. This is often cheaper than each organisation organising their own capacity building.
- There are now videos available for all Shelter Clusters and practitioners to use for improved site planning on the Shelter Cluster Youtube Channel.
