Ethiopia ESNFI Cluster Integrated Shelter & Essential NFI (ISEN) Kit for IDP Response
In this challenging environment, the Ethiopia Emergency Shelter and Non-Food Item (ES/NFI) Cluster has introduced the Integrated Shelter and Essential Household Item (ISEN) kit: a practical, cost-effective solution designed to efficiently address the urgent shelter and household needs of displacement-affected families. Developed through consultations with displaced communities, local authorities, Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM) actors, and humanitarian partners, the ISEN kit provides direct material support combined with technical guidance to help families construct or upgrade emergency shelters in a timely and efficient manner.
The ISEN kit is designed to rapidly and efficiently address critical immediate shelter and household needs of displacement-affected families across Ethiopia. It provides a practical, standardized package of materials and essential items that can be quickly deployed in collective centers, informal settlements, and host community settings.
The kit supports a self-build approach, enabling displaced households to construct or upgrade their own shelters with direct material assistance and basic technical guidance. This method ensures cost-effective, timely support, making the best use of limited humanitarian resources while maintaining minimum baseline safety and protection standards.
