This document introduces Catholic Relief Services' (CRS) "Greening the Shelter" pilot project in Gaza, which aimed to reduce the environmental impact of shelter rehabilitation for conflict-affected households. Funded by UNHCR and ECHO, the project involved a participatory process where families worked with engineers and social workers to identify green solutions, such as reusing materials and installing rainwater harvesting systems. The document outlines the strategies and best practices from the pilot, aiming to mitigate environmental impacts in shelter responses and encourage broader adoption of these approaches in Gaza and beyond.
