Introducing the new Shelter, Cash and Markets Community of Practice

The Global Shelter Cluster is excited to announce the launch of the Shelter, Cash and Markets Community of Practice (CoP). The CoP will be a place for practitioners to discuss and exchange on the use of Cash and Voucher Assistance (CVA) in shelter responses, and in relation to market analysis and market-based programming within the shelter sector.  All individuals with an interest in cash and markets within the shelter sector are invited to join as members of the CoP!

Background: The Cash and Shelter Working Group was active from 2015 – 2020, and was an important place to exchange ideas and experience, engage in advocacy efforts for the sector, and to provide technical support and guidance on various issues related to cash interventions and shelter responses. In October 2020, it was agreed at the Global Shelter Cluster annual meeting that the Cash and Shelter Working Group had largely met its original objectives, and in order to keep the conversation going the WG would be deactivated and evolve into a Shelter, Cash and Markets Community of Practice (CoP).

How to Join: This CoP is intended to provide a forum for practitioners to continue to exchange, share resources and tools, and provide ongoing technical support in the area of cash and markets in shelter responses. To join the CoP, you should do the following:

  1. Create an account on www.sheltercluster.org
  2. Click ‘Follow’ on the left hand side of the Shelter Cash and Markets CoP landing page
  3. You will now be able to create and reply to discussions within the CoP and receive notifications when there are new resources and discussion threads
  4. To write an email to the COP, please send an email to discussion-cash-shelter-markets@inbound.sheltercluster.org

Share your ideas: The Shelter Cash and Markets CoP will initially be co-moderated by Catholic Relief Services (CRS) and Australian Red Cross (ARC) and all individuals with an interest in cash and markets within the shelter sector are invited to join as members and contribute. If you are interested in taking on an active role in the CoP, or you have suggestions for priority areas of discussion or activities for the CoP, please reach out to Leeanne Marshall (lemarshall@redcross.org.au), and Jennifer Weatherall (jennifer.weatherall@crs.org).
