Damage assessment panel discussion at the HNPW on Tuesday 25 March 2025, 11:00 to 12:30
Dear Technical CoP members,
The Humanitarian Networks and Partnerships Week (HNPW) is scheduled from 17 to 28 March 2025 in Geneva, Switzerland. The HNPW provides a unique forum for humanitarian networks and partnerships to meet and address key humanitarian issues.
We are pleased to invite you to the panel discussion “Striking the right balance: Rapid vs. Detailed Damage Assessments for Effective Shelter Programming” at the Humanitarian Networks and Partnerships Week on Tuesday 25 March 2025 from 11:00h to 12:30h in Room 16, level 3, at the International Conference Center Geneva & online.
Organised by the Global Shelter Cluster in partnership with the Shelter Cluster Ukraine, Miyamoto International, the Swiss Humanitarian Aid Unit of the SDC, Impact Initiatives and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), this event will bring together humanitarian and shelter experts from private sector, international organizations and governmental entities to explores the critical trade-offs between speed and accuracy in post-disaster damage assessments.
Experts will examine the strengths and limitations of rapid versus detailed assessments, focusing on how each approach impacts decision-making for shelter programming. Through a panel discussion, this session aims to explore strategies to optimize the use of assessment data, ensuring timely, effective, and context-sensitive shelter solutions. Technical methodologies for rapid and detailed assessments, practical field applications, and innovative assessment approaches, providing actionable insights for improved humanitarian will be presented.
Damage Assessment is one of the technical theme priorities covered by the new GSC Technical Community of Practice, which will be introduced at the end of the session. Related resources are available on the Technical Toolkit on the Global Shelter Cluster website.
