Please join us online on Thursday, September 25, from 2-3 pm (Geneva time) for an important session on the topic of “Burn Prevention, Acute Care and Rehabilitation: Learning across Contexts” with the following panellists:
🔥 Dr Janeshree Govindasamy is a South African physician with extensive experience in rural medicine, pediatrics, anaesthetics, surgery, palliative care, and burns care. She was instrumental in establishing and leading burns services in KwaZulu-Natal, including setting up the first dedicated unit at Ngwelezane Hospital.
🔥 Cheryl Rebello is the CEO of Beyond Carlton, a citizen led organization and movement working to make India fire safe. She has worked to develop programmes to shape a prepared citizenry through emergency and neighbourhood safety training. Cheryl was actively involved in projects to promote burn care and life safety in Bangalore.
🔥 Dr Vijay Joseph is a Professor of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at St. John’s Medical College Hospital in Bangalore, India. He has more than 35 years’ experience managing acute burn injuries and post-burn conditions. His longstanding commitment has made him a leading figure in the field of burn care and reconstructive surgery in India.
🔥 Krissie Stiles is a nurse of 22 years with a passion for pre-hospital burn care, burn education and first aid. She is a proud Ambassador of Children’s Burns Trust, is the co-author of the “Saving Lives is Not Enough” report and the author of "The Family Oops and Burns First Aid" children’s book.
Together we’ll reflect on the role of education for burn prevention and first aid, and the critical challenges of burn care in low resource settings.
