@Shelter Cluster 2018

Highlights

During the reporting month, 5 Cluster partners submitted reports to the Shelter Cluster’s 5W before the reporting deadline. This represents only 36% of the total number of partners that were reporting to the Cluster in 2021. 21,365 individuals (3,561 households) were assisted of which 11,622 individuals (1,937 households) are displaced in the Northwest and 9,743 individuals (1,624 households) in the South West. 53% of the beneficiaries were female of which (53% were children, 33% were adults, and 13% were elderly, while the remaining 47% were male (52% children, 35% adult, and 13 % elderly). As it is the first month of the year, the completed activities represent mostly non-food item distribution and limited completion of shelter activities.

The Shelter Cluster conducted an analysis of the response and coverage in Shelter from Jan 2021 to Jan 2022. The analysis shows that there is a big gap in coverage of shelter activities particularly according to the map above in the factsheet.

Need analysis

With funding from UNHCR, Plan International began a household assessment and focus group discussions with IDPs, returnees, and host communities. Some of the main findings of this needs assessment are expected to come out in February. The Shelter Cluster is also attempting to consolidate a assessment tracker in order to better coordinate assessments in 2022.

Gaps / challenges

  • Limited access due to the volatile security situation on ground as well as limited access to people in need caused by bad road network and issue of connectivity which limits communication with actors on ground.
  • Lack of funding to respond to shelter/NFI needs in NWSW
  • Limited number of partners reporting on time to the Cluster. A new reporting tool was recently introduced which will hopefully increase the reporting rates among partners in 2022. Shelter Cluster partners cited the need for sharing of information and reporting as some of the priorities to work on for 2022.
