11th October 2022 Shelter Cluster Meeting

Action Points from the Meeting

  • Cash for Shelter Training: Shelter Cluster Coordinator to follow up with Management of agencies in Southwest to find out preferences for organization of cash training - whether agencies would come to Bamenda or whether there should be one training in each region
  • Follow up on use of Shelter Kit Checklist: Caritas SW for ongoing distributions, NRC is ongoing this week, DRC is upcoming in end of October/November
  • Advocate with HLP AoR to share information on taxation related with tenure contracts to guide future cash for rent projects - as formal contracts have implications for how to settle debts.
  • Shelter Cluster Coordinator to make name optional in the PDM form and to change modalities from select one to select multiple - follow up to be done with individual agencies to find out what would be preferred modalities for using the form in their program and sharing info with cluster.
  • Shelter Cluster to reach out to CWG to see if we can include multipurpose cash in the PDM form as they are concerns about whether shelter needs are being addressed and that protection risks are not increased by need to rationalize funds by recipients.
  • Shelter Cluster to update 5W to include West and Littoral regions to reflect any activities that are ongoing there.

Updates from Partners

  • Caritas distributed NFI kits to 242 households in Fundong Subdivision. They planned to distribute both shelter and NFI kits to 650 households but they faced logistical and security challenges, so they are now waiting for additional security clearances to continue the distribution. They will begin beneficiary registration in Wum. Caritas in the Southwest is carrying out distributions in Meme.
  • UNHCR distributed NFI kits to 50 elderly IDPs in the West through MINAS.
  • CRS carried out vendor learning and sensitization in the previous month. 41 households in October will receive a top up to reclaim additional items.
  • COHESODEC continues to work on reconciling the data on burnt homes in the Northwest. COHESODEC will upload the next cleaned data for support from the Shelter Cluster Coordinator for cleaning.
  • DRC is preparing to implement their activiites in Fako division and is looking at distributing in Bafia but if not able to get security in Munyake, Lilale, and Likoko villages. They are also now considering Meme but they reported in the 5W they would be working in Kupe Manengumbé. They should update this as soon as possible if they do not get access to Kupe Manengumbé, as they would have to cooridnate with Caritas who is already implementing in Meme.
  • NRC is going to be distributing 1200 shelter kits primiarily in the zones more in need as identified by the Shelter Cluster particulary in Donga Mantung. NRC is now doing procurement after they assess the needs through the Shelter kit Checklist and their own registration form so that they do not procure items that will not be useful. NRC is also proceeding on their program to do minor repairs for 30 households. Beneficiaries and Shelter Committees will receive trainings on Safe Shelter.
  • SHUMAS is continuing to provide rental support to 23 IDP students in Bamenda.
