November 2nd NWSW Shelter Cluster Monthly Meeting

Action Points from the Meeting

  • Cash Training agreed dates with partners are 29th 30th November in Bamenda and 8th and 9th December in Buea 
  • Shelter Cluster to add gender and age breakdown to ongoing projects to improve reporting on individuals in the 5W. 
  • Shelter Cluster to update partners on the updating of the 5W to include Admin 5 gps points to make reporting easier for next year. 
  • Shelter Cluster partners to submit their reports to the 5W by COB 2nd November. 
  • Shelter Cluster partners to review draft Humanitarian Needs Overview by the 16th of November to provide their inputs and analysis of the situation and needs for 2023. 
  • Shelter Cluster partners to communicate or ask any questions on the Shelter Cluster draft criteria for project submission. 
  • Shelter Cluster coordinator to inquire of OCHA if there will be HPC Tools modules training in person in Bamenda or Buea. 
  • DRC to use the Shelter Kit Checklist for their upcoming distributions
  • Caritas to follow up on the use of Shelter Kit checklist after distributions for shelter distributions that were completed in October. 
  • DRC to share findings from their ongoing household assessment and beneficiary selection where they have noted high needs in bush settlements. 
  • Shelter Cluster partners to contact the HLP AoR for any tenure challenges they may encounter to ensure secure enough tenure during shelter interventions: julius.bantar@nrc.no
  • HLP AoR to share the template on rental agreements with the Shelter Cluster to guide partners on how to establish such agreements in their programming. 
  • IMC to share updates on Health Centers that are being used as shelters and to refer these to Shelter Cluster partners to mobilize shelter and NFI support. 
  • Shelter Cluster to mention the use of health centers as a shelter strategy for new or pendular displacements in aftermath of conflict incidents in the draft Humanitarian Needs Overview

Updates from Partners

  • CRS: In the month of October, CRS provided top-up distribution through vouchers to NFI beneficiaries. During the month of November they have assessed 150 households who are new arrivals in Bamenda and also in Momo Division. They are only able to assist 100 households so beneficiary selection will be done in the next month. 
  • Caritas: In the month of October, Caritas reached 1900 Households with Emergency shelter kits and 650 households with NFIs in 10 communities in Meme Division. In Boyo Division, Caritas reached 605 houesholds with emergency shelter kits and 387 households in Ndjinikom. In the month of September, Caritas will start assessing shelters in Manyu in Mamfe Central. They will also begin assessing households in Menchum to support 1000 households in Weh, Esu, and Wum. 
  • SHUMAS: The agency continues to support 23 students with rental support. In October, the agency supported one household with a comprehensive program including Shelter, WASH, Livelihoods, Education etc. 
  • MOHCAM: Celebrated International Day of the Girl child in the past month and supported women with dignity kits (which is reported to the GBV AoR). 
  • Coordinating Unit for Associations of Persons with Disabilities: The agency is involved in advocacy with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development on making shelters and public institutions more accessible to persons with disabilities. Agencies who come across such difficulties in their Shelter support can refer cases to CUAPWD for their support in advocacy for improved shelter conditions. 
  • DRC: On Friday November 4th, DRC will distribute 755 NFI kits to IDPs in Munyenge Village. They also plan to distribute light shelter kits to the same number of IDPs in this village. Upcoming distributions and beneficiary selection are upcoming in Likoko and Lilale villages. 
  • UNHCR has selectd 445 beneficiraies for its cash for shelter program. The agency plans to support a total of 500 households. 
  • ICRC is working on the rehabilitation of community center in Muyuka.
