Mozambique - TC Freddy 2023
Tropical Cyclone Freddy made landfall on the eastern coast of Madagascar, on 21 February. It made it’s second landfall in Mozambique on 11 March. It brought strong winds to Zambezia province, as well as heavy rains to Zambezia, Sofala, Manica, Tete and Niassa provinces. Overall, 130,000 houses were destroyed. The effects of Tropical Cyclone Freddy compounds multiple ongoing crises in the country (floods, cholera, the emergency in northern Mozambique). (OCHA, March 30).
To address the effects of Cyclone Freddy, Floods & cholera, an addendum to the Mozambique 2023 HRP was published on March 30 – to appeal for funds to cover the period from March to September.
