Shelter Assessments
The Shelter/NFI Cluster works closely with the Humanitarian Needs Assessment Programme (HNAP) to provide frequent large-scale shelter assessments for Northwest Syria. The cluster is also collaborating with cluster members and REACH on conducting various shelter condition assessments.
Shelter Condition Reports
A joint S/NFI Cluster and HNAP report on the IDP Shelter Situation in North-West Syria. This report explores the shelter conditions of IDP households across North-West Syria, at household level, as reported in mid-October 2022. Key comparisons are made at the governorate and sub-district levels, as well as between in-camp and out-of-camp IDPs.
This report explores the shelter conditions of all households (residents and IDPs) across NWS, as reported in January 2022. The following areas are explored: shelter types; settlement types; shelter damages; problems or issues reported in shelters; hazards; occupancy status, rental conditions and the tent situation in IDP sites.
This report explores the shelter conditions of IDPs across north-west Syria, at household level, as reported in September 2021. Key comparisons are made at the governorate and sub-district levels, as well as between in-camp and out-of-camp IDPs.
This report investigates shelter conditions across the whole of Syria. The following areas are explored: shelter types; settlement types; shelter damages; problems or issues reported in shelters; hazards; evictions; occupancy status and rental conditions.

This HNAP report investigates the shelter conditions across the Whole of Syria. The following areas are explored: settlement & shelter type; shelter characteristics (shelter sharing, access to toilets, & size of shelter); shelter damages and repairs; evictions; problems with shelter; hazards; evictions; occupancy status; and tent characteristics.
This report investigates IDP shelter conditions across northwest Syria, especially the shelter conditions in the place of displacement.
CARE International designed this assessment in support of the Shelter and NFI Cluster X-border Operations, with technical support from the GBV Sub-Cluster, Gaziantep, Turkey. Ihsan for Relief and Development collected the data required for this survey through its field teams.
In the first of several planned assessments, a total of 87 collective shelters were assessed to determine the current living conditions and availability of services including water, sanitation, hygiene, cooking facilities, electricity, and security of tenure.
Following on from the first report looking at collective shelter conditions in NWS, a second round assessment in June 2020 has focused on the living conditions in 43 collective centres.
