Highlights

According to PRMN report, drought has displaced around 1.1 million people between Jan 2021 and August 2022. Most of the displaced have arrived in Banadir, Galkacyo, Dhuusamarreeb, Cabudwaq, Cadaado, Baardheere, Hobyo, Burco, Kismayo, and Baidoa districts. Almost 200,000 people were displaced in the month of August due to conflict. These were displaced mainly to Beletweyn and Bulo burte.

Need analysis

Response

In August 2022, the Cluster Partners reached 79,599 people with non-food items (NFI) kits; and 37,679 people with shelter assistance. Cumulatively in 2022, the Shelter Cluster partners reached 247,203 individuals (31%) of 803,000 targeted with NFI assistance, and 125,264 individuals (29%) of the 430,800 targeted with shelter assistance.

Gaps / challenges

  • Funding is urgently required to respond to the displacements due to drought.
  • Prices of shelter commodities have increased sharply in the recent past affecting delivery of assistance e.g. through cash.
