Highlights
According to PRMN report, a significant number of 141,211 individuals have been displaced between January and April 2024. The primary reason for displacement was due to the conflict/insecurity and flood.
The top five regions that have received the highest number of newly displaced individuals are Lower Juba, Gedo, Bay, Galgaduud and Middle Juba regions. The report highlights that the second most urgent priority need reported is shelter.

According to PRMN report, a total of141,211 people were displaced between January 1st and April 30th, 2024. the primary causes of this displacement were conflict/insecurity, affecting 66,827 individuals ,followed by floods, which impacted 49,015 individuals. Other factors contributed to the displacement of 24,507 individuals.
The report highlights the top five regions that received the highest number of newly displaced individuals. These regions include Lower Juba, with 42,292 people; Gedo, with 19,934 people; Bay, with 18,064 people; Galgaduud, with 12,259 people; and Middle Juba, with 11,006 people.
Additionally, the report emphasizes that shelter needs were the second most pressing priority need after food, accounting for 31% of the reported needs.
Response
In April 2024, the Cluster Partners have reached a total of 109989 people through its response. Among them, 42,763 people were provided with non-food items (NFI) kits. additionally, the cluster provided 67,226 people with shelter assistance, especially plastic sheeting. Cumulatively, the cluster has reached 594,207 people between January and April 2024.
Gaps / challenges
- Funding is urgently required to respond to the displacement and to pre-position NFI and shelter items for potential displacements in near future.
- Shelter cluster has been underfunded affecting humanitarian shelter response in timely and effective manner.
- Due to overwhelming shelter needs, lack of security of tenure and severe underfunding, the shelter and NFI needs of the displaced people are largely unmet.
