Shelter Cluster partners reached 12,426 beneficiaries during the month of April.

UNHCR and NRC continued to provide support to victims of the 18th March Buea Floods, while IOM responded to new displacements in Fungom. DRC and NRC continued assistance activities for protracted IDPs, and SHUMAS continued to provide support to IDP university students.

March 2023

In the month of March, the Shelter Cluster held two environmental mainstreaming workshops in which 31 Cluster participants were trained on the use of the Nexus-Environmental Assessment Tool, ECHO’s Minimum Environmental Requirements, and the mainstreaming of environmental activities in the Shelter Cluster Response. The first implementation of environmental mainstreaming in the Shelter/NFI response was also implemented through the local NGO SIRDEP.

February 2023

According to the analysis of security colleagues, February 2023 was one of the Februarys with the most insecurity incidents in the last 3 years of the Northwest and Southwest Crisis. Besides ongoing rental assistance to support to 25 people in the Northwest Region, Shelter Cluster partners were not able to implement any other activities in the Northwest and Southwest. As an extension of its activities in the Northwest and Southwest, H4BF distributed NFI items to 136 households in the West Region, but these were incomplete kits.

January 2023

During the month of December, Shelter Cluster partners reached 2290 individuals (520 households) with Shelter and NFI assistance. The majority of the Shelter Cluster's response in January was in response to new displacements caused by armed clashes and the burning of homes over the period of November to January in Mbengwi (Momo Divisoin), Ako (Donga Mantung division); Oku (Bui Division), Akwaya (Manyu Division), and Tubah (Mezam Division). Regular response was also provided to protracted IDPs in Bamenda (Mezam Division) and Tiko (Fako Division).

December 2022

During the month of December, Shelter Cluster partners reached 1,423 individuals (4,334 households) with Shelter and NFI assistance. Shelter Cluster partners also participated in the Humanitarian Plan Process for 2023. A vetting committee meeting on the 6th of December resulted in 9 projects being approved with a total ask of $15 million USD to target 294,000 people with assistance in the next year. The Shelter Cluster also delivered a cash and shelter training for partners in Buea.

October 2022

During the month of October, the Shelter Cluster has reached 2992 households with Shelter and NFI assistance. Activities included distribution of NFIs, distribution of emergency shelter kits, and rental assistance. The Shelter Cluster also finalized its draft of the Humanitarian Needs Overview for 2023. The needs are particularly accute in shelter while funding availability for a more quality shelter response seems to be decreasing.

September 2022

During the month of September, the Shelter Cluster reached 242 households with NFI assistance particularly in Fundong Subdivision in Boyo Division in the Northwest. Shelter Cluster partners continued shelter support through rental assistance to 114 households at various locations of the Northwest and Southwest. The Shelter Cluster met during two workshops to put in place a standardized post distribution monitoring of shelter interventions. It is also hoped that this tool can be used by other actors who are distributing multipurpose cash.

August 2022

During the month of August, the Shelter Cluster reached 111 households with NFI assistance and 50 households with Shelter assistance. The Shelter Cluster also went through a process for Co-Chair elections of which NRC was selected to be the co-chair for the Northwest and Southwest starting in September. In response to the rising prices reported in local markets for the items found in both the Shelter Cluster’s NFI and emergency shelter kits, a revision to those technical standards was undertaken to reflect the realities of the market.

July 2022

During the month of July, 2332 households were reached with NFI assistance in Cameroon's Northwest and Southwest regions. 1322 were beneficiaries of a voucher program distributed by CRS in Mezam and Momo Divisions, while Caritas and IRC distributed NFI kits in-kind to 1000 internally displaced households in Fako Division in the Southwest. 100 households in Caritas's distribution  were also provided with emergency shelter kits. NRC finalized beneficiary selection of its cash for rent program to be implemented in both Bamenda and Kumba towns for 100 households.

June 2022

Consistent with the first half of the year, the implementation rate in the month of June was quite low. Most of partners have finalized beneficiary registration, so while not many achievements were done in terms of households reached, the number of planned households to be targeted increased. It is hoped that implementation rates in the month of July will increase.
